Consultant/Software Engineer

starting date: fourth quarter 2005 location : Krakow type of contract: full time or to be agreed

job description The successful candidate will work with cutting edge Grid technology. (S)he will participate in the development, refactoring and integration of Java applications based on Grid services and Globus Toolkit, among the first such applications in the world. Other technologies may include high performance computing, distributed systems, parallel computations, cluster middleware and applications, distributed file systems. Work will include all phases of software engineering. It requires high skills in operating Linux programming environment and advanced Java knowledge. It also involves work with academic middleware and possible need for debugging. The employee will often need to consult with customers in the USA and Europe over telephone. Travel and on-site visits will be necessary.

The employee will initially work as a developer. However, in the near future (s)he will be expected to take up a more responsible role, such as an instructor at technical, developer oriented tutorials and training sessions, project manager, and a technical representative at contacts with customers.

ideal candidate very good English in speaking, reading and writing. We are looking for a communicative person - MSc degree in Computer Science or related field - experience and deep understanding of Java, SOAP, Web services, as well as C programming - practical knowledge of protocol standards such as TCP, HTTP, SOAP, WS standards - experience in security programming and understanding of certificate based security schemes - experience in software development - fluency in Linux programming environment, including ant, make, cvs - experience with academic and commercial distributed computing technologies, such as parallel programming, MPI, cluster management tools, distributed file systems, etc - understanding of XP or other software engineering methodology

additional qualities Knowledge of Grid computing, including Grid services and Globus Toolkit 4 will be a very strong asset. Also, we will credit applicants experienced with J2EE and other Java technologies. Knowledge of C, including autotools will be a bonus as well.
